We are now looking for a support person for the Structure course.

Structure is a targeted general course for participants (students) with neuropsychiatric disabilities who, with special educational support, wish to complete their primary or secondary education.

Your Workplace

Kristinehamn Folk High School is one of Region Värmland's five folk high schools. At Kristinehamn Folk High School, adult education is offered in both general and special courses. In the general course, participants can complete their primary and secondary education, while in the special course, they can pursue vocational training or deepen their knowledge in one of our interest courses.

Approximately 150 participants study at the school, and there are about 35 employees on site. The school has a long tradition of offering courses aimed at special education.

With us, you will have the opportunity to work in a school form where relationship building and safety are at the center. There is time and space to work together with your team to find strategies and contribute to creating the best possible conditions for each individual participant to achieve their study goals.

Your Responsibilities

As a support person in the Structure course, you will work together with the class teacher and individual subject teachers with the group throughout the school day. Your work includes helping participants find strategies to break a previous pattern of problematic school absenteeism.

Great emphasis is placed on building relationships and motivating. In the classroom, you are a support for the participant in their education. It also includes being a support for the participant in networks with other authorities that enable them to succeed in their studies.

Together with the class teacher, you will organize study visits for new participants and ensure that the onboarding and transition period occurs in the best possible way. The school has a boarding facility, and as a support person, you will work with the school's other support staff to assist and guide participants in their accommodation. A few times each term, it will involve organizing afternoon/evening activities for participants at the school's boarding facility.

You will be employed as a support person at Kristinehamn Folk High School, which may involve working in other groups and departments.

Your Skills and Competencies

We are looking for someone with post-secondary education as a leisure leader, treatment assistant, social educator, or other education that the employer finds equivalent. You should have experience working with young adults. Since the work involves accompanying participants on study visits and other relevant visits, you need to have a driver's license.

It is a significant advantage if you have experience working with young adults with neuropsychiatric disabilities. If you have experience in alcohol and drug prevention, we consider it an asset. In this role, you should be stable and resilient, with the ability to remain calm even in challenging situations. You are clear and structured in your working method and have a good overall perspective, which helps you understand the individual's needs in a broader context.

You are empathetic and passionate about creating good relationships, which is crucial for building trust. In the classroom, we work with digital learning platforms, which requires you to easily adapt to digital systems. You should also be able to handle various parts of the Office suite.
